Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends (later known as Thomas & Friends) is a British children's television series that adapted stories from the Rev. W. Awdry's Railway Series, first broadcast on the ITV network from the mid 1980s to the early 1990s. The first two series were produced by Clearwater Features for Britt Allcroft Railway Productions and Central Independent Television and narrated by Ringo Starr. After Ringo Starr left the show at the end of season 2, Michael Angelis became the narrator from series 3 to 16.

The first season was shot at the Clapham Junction railway museum in Battersea; the second season onwards are shot at Shepperton Studios.

Following the controversy of the third season in 1992, Thomas was taken off of terrestrial television for the rest of the 90s.
